Take this quiz to find out if you are an introvert or extrovert or ambivert. Nearly 50% of humans are actually ambiverts. Answer 20 simple questions to reveal.
A Psychologically Approved Introversion or Extroversion Quiz
The test on this page uses scientific data such as Freyd’s 1924 study to identify if you are extroverted or introverted. It simulates social situations to stimulate the four cognitive functions (feeling, thinking, sensation, and intuition). And the final analysis is based on Jung and Eysenck’s theories. (More on this below).
Fun fact; Did you know that extroversion makes you a more pragmatic person? Take the Visionary vs. Realist test to see for yourself.
The Test Is Based on Jung and Eysenck’s Work
Carl Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, proposed the whole idea of extro/introversion. However, in the 1960s, Hans Eysenck added to his theory and expanded it. We used both of the said psychologists’ models to create the test on this page.
Jung’s theory
The primary difference between introverted and extroverted individuals is in where their attention goes. The former’s focus is inward, while the latter concentrates on the outside world and others’ feelings/thoughts. It is noteworthy that everyone has some degree of each of the said traits. So, no one should be considered 100% introverted or extroverted.
Hans Eysenck’s theory
According to Han’s model, the main difference between the two groups is the way they recharge their mental energy. Extroverts naturally have lower brain activities. So, they expose themselves to social interactions to recharge themselves. However, introverts’ brains are already high-functioning. So, they need to shield themselves from the outside world to maintain mental energy.
What Does My Result Mean?
Most tests on the internet only tell if you are an extroverted or introverted person. But there is another possibility—which is surprisingly more common than the rest. Our test reveals if you are an ambivert as well. So, it is the most reliable questionary you could find online. Here is what each result means.
#1: You Are an Extroverted Person
If the quiz diagnosis you with extroversion, you enjoy being in the spotlight. People like you enjoy praises and love to gain all the attention possible. Plus, you tend to speak up, make careful decisions, and socialize more than an average person.
#2: You Are an Introverted Person
If the test matches you with introversion’s description, you are a quiet individual who is also an excellent listener. You may be a bit of a daydreamer now and then. But you share ideas when prompted. People like you are usually more creative and artistic than others. You can easily focus on your tasks, and your long-term memory is pretty reliable.
#3: You Are an Ambivert
Positive Psychology claims that 50-66% of humans fall in between extroversion and introversion. And the said group are called ambiverts. If that is the case, you are neither a highly social nor an absolute loner. You have some characteristics of both categories. But they are balanced in your personality.
Who Needs the Test?
The Introvert or Extrovert Quiz is for anyone who wants to assess their personality. Parents who are curious about their child’s characteristics can benefit from the test results, too.
Introversion vs. Extroversion vs. Ambiversion (the 4 Cognitive Functions Model)
Jungian psychological functions are widely used to distinguish extroverted, introverted, and ambivert traits. Carl Jung believed that the inward or outward focus of the said attitudes is the key indicator of extro/introversion. The following table shows his ideas in action.
Introverts | Ambiverts | Extroverts | |
Thinking | Overthinking/detailed | In-between or None | Seeing the big picture |
Feeling | Emotional/empathetic | In-between or None | Not very emotional |
Sensation | Feelings over actions | In-between or None | Actions over feelings |
Intuition | Philosophical | In-between or None | Scientific |
Debunking 4 Myths Before the Introvert or Extrovert Quiz
Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a well-known psychologist, believes that many misconceptions surround the idea of personality types. She suggests that each category has its strengths and weaknesses. So, you need to be realistic about their functions.
Here are the four common things people get wrong about Carl Jung’s theory.
- No, extroversion is not better than introversion.
Some wrongfully associate introversion with being antisocial or depressed. While both of the said traits might be found in the said individuals, they are not persistent. And by nature, Extroversion has no particular advantage over other types. So, you cannot (and should not) discriminate against any of them.
- Yes, an introvert can become an excellent leader.
Dr. Ramani says, “Introverted people are tuned in with their workers. So, they make trustworthy and reliable leaders.” Contrary to popular ideas, individuals with less active social life and more inward focus can also manage teams and be good at it.
- No, you do not have to have the same personality type to have a healthy relationship.
For many, the big question is, “Should I date an extrovert or introvert?” But there is no scientific data available to prove any advantage in dating a particular personality type.
- No, social anxiety is not the same thing as introversion.
We already created an accurate Anxiety Test for those who might struggle with the issue. But keep in mind that introversion does not mean you hate socializing or are afraid of social interactions. So, do not label others with terms like socially anxious just because they lean towards one side of Jung’s personality type spectrum.
Disclaimer
QuizExpo does not favor any of the categories on this test. The Introverted or Extroverted Quiz follows the most recent scientific data and the widely accepted theories in psychology. While the results are 100% accurate, we still encourage you to consult a psychiatrist to understand your mentality and personality better.
How to Play?
Playing personality quizzes is straightforward: Choose the option that’s true about you—or you relate to—and select “Next.” Unlike trivia quizzes, personality tests have no right or wrong answers. But the questions are in forced-choice format. The point is to push you to choose an option that makes the most sense, not the one that’s 100% true. For the most accurate results, don’t overthink your responses. Go with options that you “feel” are the best.
