Four Seasons, Four Detective to Match
The first season of True Detective aired in 2014, with Matthew McConaughey playing the protagonist, Rust. Later, in 2015, the showrunners introduced a new hero to the anthology: Rat Velcoro, a twisted and emotionally unstable officer struggling with his personal and professional life.
After these initial seasons, the trend continued by adding two more detectives to the franchise: Wayne in season three and Liz in season four—Night Country.

Initially a determined officer, Rust gradually turns into a cynical and aggressive detective. However, as she gets closer to solving the homicide case in her town, she becomes more in touch with her feelings and learns to grieve for her son and husband without giving up on her own life.
