Complex

As with any mental health topic, trauma and PTSD are sensitive matters. You can’t (and shouldn’t) expect an online test to replace a doctor’s diagnosis. But the problem with TikTok trauma checks is that they pretend to be diagnostic—even though they’re mostly made up of random questions.

Take the TikTok trend “I can only joke ab my trauma, not you” as an example. It’s 58 seconds of so-called triggering noises that are supposed to expose your childhood trauma.

But diagnosing a person with a personality or mental disorder takes more. You should never label yourself—or anyone else—based on unscientific, invalid methods.

Is It Okay to Self-Test Trauma and PTSD?

With the rise of 1-minute trauma quizzes online, people are more likely to self-diagnose themselves with PTSD. But is that okay? The answer depends on the tools you use and why you do so.

If you’re using an online trauma test as a quick mental health assessment, then it’s okay. But if you’re replacing it with an actual psychologist or therapist’s diagnosis, you should rethink your decisions.

Self-testing mental disorders is never a good practice as you don’t have the required clinical knowledge. It might lead to self-diagnosis or self-prescription that could actually worsen your situation or lead to more significant issues.

What if the Quiz Said You Have Experienced Childhood Trauma?

Don’t panic if the results indicate you have been traumatized. Although it’s challenging to live with post-trauma emotions, PTSD is treatable. With the correct treatment method—and maybe proper medication—you can overcome your lack of enthusiasm, anxiety, and insecurity and live a calm and peaceful life.
